Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Kara and I did the normal dinner to dinner migration and left over stocking, followed by the kick off of the Christmas decorating event. It was as grand as ever.
I was truly baffled as I paid attention to how our ritual plays out and considered we actually get through it without any squables or hint of arguement. We pull all sorts of stuff from the attic whilst at the same time buying even more stuff to cram back into the attic for once it is over. We wind up buying Christmas gifts for several more people than the year before and loving every minute of it even though we know we are in the process to sky rocketing through the budget set in February of last year (when everything finally gets totalled). The ferver is truly intoxicating... I really think Kara and I have so much fun with this as we do a great deal of give and take.
Yesterday was a great example: Before beginning the decorating activities I had decided I "needed" to further pursue my Nintendo Wii search "for Olivia." I, woke up at 6:30am pinned my daughter and got her into the hot rod, because Olivia loves the hot rod. Kara steps up to the plate and drives around with us in this smelly, rust ridden, exhaust bucket smiling ear to ear until we finally find one at my new favorite store Target (see my previous post). Once home Kara takes off to do some shopping while Olivia and I get things organized (which really means go out and get some add ons for the thing because Olivia had turned the power off during a firmware update and I needed to get the thing online to download another one from Nintendo).
Everyone meets home at the same time ready to go and then it is decorating time. Kara begins mixing the hot toddies and we toast as I start the firmware update as we begin unpacking and organizing. It is then she sends me up to the ROOF put the Christmas lights on the outside of the house. Aside from a small mishap when the ladder skirted out from under me, the lights went up fine and Kara decked the halls to their current state of festive.
I took careful notice that she is was smiling from ear to ear and still, as of yet, have not played Nintendo.
